No-exam life insurance
How accelerated underwriting works, which applicants it suits best, and what to expect if a standard exam is necessary.
Many carriers now offer accelerated underwriting. For applicants within certain age and amount limits, the carrier decides whether to issue the policy based on your application, prescription records, driving history, and other data, rather than ordering a medical exam. Decisions can come back within hours.
What it changes
Accelerated underwriting is not the same as skipping underwriting entirely. Your answers are still verified, and a policy issued on false information can be challenged within its first two years. If the carrier's records raise questions, they may still ask for an exam or tests.
Who tends to qualify
Generally, people under 60 applying for amounts within the carrier's standard limits, with no serious health conditions and no tobacco use for the past year. If you have had a recent checkup that included blood work, some carriers will accept those results instead of ordering an exam.
If an exam is necessary, it is typically 20 to 30 minutes with a medical examiner at a location of your choice—your home, office, or another convenient spot in the Yucaipa area—at no cost to you. Exam results frequently help qualified applicants improve their rate class, so an exam is not necessarily a drawback.
